When: 2007 – 2012
Where: artist’s shrine on Mount Eloudem, Yaoundé
KHaL!SHRINE is an artist run alternative hub located on the foot of mount Eloundem, Yaounde, Cameroon, where the creative utopia of KHaL!LAND could be experienced in the physical.
At KHaL!SHRINE explores the visual arts but focus on lens based media, sound and multidisciplinary experimentation, through alternative art events, workshops, informal art residencies and community outreach projects.
The KHaL!SHRINE project born from a basic need of having a creative hub where young and practicing artists could exchange and experiment. It was imagined to serve as a safe heaven for uncompromising creatives. This is in addition to the absence of galleries and/ art centers in the region with a permanent collection of lens based and new media artworks.
The space is open to residents from different cultural and religious backgrounds bound together by the arts.
KHaL!LAND/KHaL!SHRINE is an independent non-profit making project, founded in 2007 by the artist Em’kal Eyongakpa.
